This
kit is the re-issue by Revell from the older Esci
kit. Revell didn't change anything on the moldings
and therefore the kit cannot hide it's age. As
a consequence, a lot of preparational work on
all parts needs to be done.
As most parts are a bit rough and not too detailed,
a lot of sanding is needed. Moulding lines that
apparent and very visible sink marks, on places
you don't want to be, are not from this age anymore.
However, with a substantial amount of time spend
on preparing and cleaning the kit, a very convincing
result can be obtained.
In addition to this, not all parts are correct.
Not only are the seats wrong, also the wheels
and tyres are incorrect. Slick tyres are supplied,
but a set for gravel is needed. The RAC rally
doesn't even allow the use of slick tyres. Fortunately
there exists an upgrade set from Reji, containing
the correct seats, but the tyres will have to
come from the scrap box or any other suitable
source.
The Reji upgrade set also contains a fill in for
missing or wrongly printed decals supplied in
the kit. Reji also has a photo etched-set (PE)
available that will enhance the Escort even further.
The supports for the high beamers or the whipers
from this PE-set are just a few items making his
a worthy investment.
Compared to more recent rally model kits, this
one does have an engine in it. At the time of
building this kit, the lack of good reference
material however called for this Escort to be
build as a curbside.
Despite the shortcomings of this kit, with the
right amount of time and patience spend on it,
a convincing end result can be obtained. The 2
earlier mentioned upgrade sets will make that
this Ford Escort Mk2 can, once build, stand the
competetion against more recently issued rally
cars. On top of this, there are enough alternative
liveries available as aftermarket decals to make
yourselve a interesting and unique Ford Escort
Mk.2.
